Blobject is a Spanish based company in Córdoba which has launched the world first touristic service of electric cars equipped with a GPS assisted computer. This service provides multimedia information on existing points of interest in the city of Cordoba. This service is pioneer in the world, as we combine an electric car with ICTs. Thanks to the geopositioning technology developed by Blobject, the visitor will be able to access all kind of information on the points of interest that are in the city. As the car passes by any point of interest within 100 meters, the 8 ½” screen will display the name of the point of interest. In this way, if any customer is interested, he or she could have more information on it. Through the touchscreen, the visitor has access to audios, videos, 19th and 20th city pictures, and so on. Currently the system counts with three different languages (Spanish, English and French) and more than 150 points of cultural interest in the city. The service is been possible because of the existing free software. Thanks to it, Blobject was able not only to save thousands of euros developing technology that was already there, but to modify the code in order to personalize it for Blobject own convenience. The technology infraestructure runs in a Debian GNU/Linux OS and all developments are based in free software (GpsDrive, Phyton, wxPhyton, MySQL,SWLite, Eclipese). In the near future, thousands of lines of code will be released to the community. (You can see some screenshots of the technology in one of our founder's blog) To put this service into practice, Blobject has counted with the collaboration of different local partners such as the Cordoba City Hall, and the Archaeological Department of the University of Cordoba . With this technological-advanced service, Blobject collaborates in favor of the candidature of Cordoba towards the nomination of Cordoba as the 2016 European Cultural City (Please support our candidature signing here) On the other hand, Blobject also offers Segway tours in the city of Cordoba. The Segway is a machine for individual transportation created by Dean Kamen. Segway is a revolutionary machine since it is driven by body movements and body balance, due to the installation of gyroscopes and a technology that measures the effectiveness of this equipment over 100 times per second. Blobject currently offers three daily routes (morning, evening and night) attended by a guide who will train and ensure the well being of the participants, leading the expedition by the surroundings of the Guadalquivir River and the Cordoba Botanical Garden. With this tour, the customer will see the city from a very different and enjoyable point of view. THE BLOBJECT COMPANY Blobject S.L is a company created by three enterpreneurs from Cordoba, Spain. They have joined their knowledge and experience to start this company: Marco Antonio Castilla Gómez, industrialist, aged 32, Master in Human Resources and founder of the MC Informatica, distributor of IT components, and EOS Proccessor, IT Ensambly Center. Marco Antonio was awarded with “the 2003 Young Enterpreneur Award, by the Cordoba Young Enterpreneurs Association. Alfredo Romeo Molina, aged 30, major in Finance by the St. Louis University (USA) in 1997. Financial analyst at the Commerce Bank of St Louis for two and a half years. Alfredo is also the author of the book “ La Pastilla Roja, Software Libre y Revolución Digital, first book written in Spanish on free software and the Digital Revolution. Alfredo participates regularly in different conferences and workshops on free software, smart mobs, “the power of many”, trends, and so on.
